Since recession has seriously held up the Brighton Black Rock ice arena scheme, Keep Sussex Skating (KSS) continues to call for a temporary ice rink for Brighton to cater for the extensive county catchment of frustrated ice skaters. Now comes the cheering news (The Argus, August 28) that from November 1 – January 30 there are new plans for a temporary outdoor ice rink at the Pavilion Gardens.

We hope planning permission will be no problem as a precedent has been set at the Pavilion Gardens in recent years – the area has already been used for summer events.

The proposed Pavilion ice rink, together with the well-established annual Get Your Skates On! public ice skating event at the Brighton Centre, will mean that ice skaters will be spoilt for choice. In previous years with just one event, skaters have been turned away as the seven daily sessions sell out very quickly. In Brighton, ice skaters cannot get enough skating action.

KSS will be contacting Brighton and Hove City Council to support the proposed Pavilion ice rink plans and offer assistance. Our major priority is that skaters and visitors will need both the Brighton Centre and the Pavilion Gardens to help us to keep Sussex skating!
