Councillor Dee Simson just doesn’t seem to get it (Letters, August 27).

She says that Brighton and Hove City Council’s cleaning staff quickly cleared up the mess that Travellers always seem to leave behind. However, those responsible for leaving the litter are never made to pay for these clean- up operations, which often run into hundreds or even thousands of pounds. This falls upon hard-working local taxpayers.

Travellers simply move on to another site and the process starts all over again. Why are they allowed to get away with it?

The council and the police never seem to have any difficulty in punishing others, even for quite minor transgressions.
