Firefighters free nut from boy's finger

A seven-year-old boy spent four hours with a nut stuck on his finger.

The youngster was only freed after firefighters were called to accident and emergency at Worthing Hospital to free the plumbing tool from his hand.

The drama took place yesterday. A Worthing firefighter said: “We were contacted by the hospital because they couldn’t get the nut off.

“The lad had been playing in his garden when he picked up the nut and shoved it on. But he couldn’t get it off again.

“It had been stuck for four hours by the time we arrived. I think he thought it was going to be there forever.

“He was a really good boy and didn’t cry.

“I think he might have been resigned to his fate.”

'Boy gets finger stuck temporarily'. Is this seriously what passes for drama these days? Or has the dark art of churnalism finally triumphed? I think I'll stick to the Framley Examiner from now on. At least it's funny.

Since when has a 'nut' been a plumbing tool then? Anyway, it could only have been finger tight!

It may have been a plumbing accessory that incorporates a nut, a conex fitting or something like that.

Just another pedantic detail, but surely the the finger was freed from the the nut, not the other way around. Not a great news story though...

In Brighton I would have thought it a common occurrence for fingers to get caught in nuts?

I expect the fire brigade were called as the nut involved might have been dry roasted.

I hope no-one in the Fire Service was a-salted while the nut was being removed.
