Family of murdered Brighton man found on golf course tell of heartbreak

The family of murdered Stefan Welch today paid tribute to their trusting son and brother.

Mr Welch, whose burnt body was discovered at Dyke Golf Course on Saturday, died from a blow to the head.

His family, paying tribute to him, said: "We love Stefan very much and cannot adequately put into words our heartbreak at this time.

"We know that we are not alone in our grief as he was loved by a wide circle of friends and others who knew him.

"Stefan was not a violent or malicious man and relied on the trust and support of those around him, who we believe took to him as soon as they met him.

"We have lost our son and brother and we appeal to anyone who can assist the police in their investigation to please help Stefan for one last time if they can."

Pay your own tributes to Mr Welch by submitting a comment or emailing news@theargus.co.uk.

I recognize Stefan from my time working at a charity in Hove a few years back. He seemed a friendly enough guy. Always out of it unfortunately. Obviously got caught up in the drugs scene in Brighton over a number of years. Very sad.

Each of us must walk our own road.
You may have stumbled but you never fell.
Respect.

I knew Stefan 20 years ago, only for a short time, unfortunately I moved away. I knew about Stefan's tragic past, when I heard the news, I was deeply shocked, no matter what Stefan was, he did deserve this brutal ending!
R.I.P Stef
