Cyclists of all ages and abilities are being asked to ride 1,900 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats and back – without leaving Preston Park.

The Pedal in Preston Park event will take place at Preston Park cycle track, Preston Drove, Brighton, between 9am and 5pm on Saturday 30th October. The event’s organiser, Alistair Milne, is hoping volunteers will raise more than £4,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), a charity which supports those suffering from the condition.

Mr Milne, who lost his wife Rachel to the disease last year, says: “Watching a loved one succumb to this disease is an awful experience. Knowing that there is no cure for MND, or even any way of slowing its progression, makes that experience even worse.

“As a family we wanted to do something positive that will help the Association to care for families with MND while working to find treatments and a cure.”

Individual participants and family groups who wish to take part are being encouraged to set themselves a target number of laps around the cycle track, with a total of 5,000 being needed to cover the set distance. Members of two Brighton cycling clubs, the Preston Park Cycle Club and VC Jubilee, will also be joining in the fundraising during their own allocated time slot on the track.

Anyone wishing to participate in the event should register with the event organiser, Alistair Milne, by e-mailing him at alistairmilne@hotmail.com, or texting him on 07721 411 113.

Participants are being encouraged to visit www.justgiving.co.uk to set up a sponsorship page. For further information about the event, visit www.pedalinprestonpark.co.uk.
