A man has died after being stung by three wasps.
Doug Garrett suffered a severe allergic reaction to the wasp venom after he disturbed a nest while raking in a garden.
After being stung Mr Garrett, who was in his early 60s, went into anaphylactic shock.
He suffered a cardiac arrest and died despite attempts by paramedics and doctors to resuscitate him.
Allergy and insect experts last night described the death as “extremely rare” and said it was unusual to find a nest so late in the year.
Neighbours said Mr Garrett was working with his partner Annie Tiplady at her home in Brighton Road, Woodmancote, near Henfield, when the wasp attack took place.
