A driver was this morning still fighting for his life after he was attacked by a cyclist.

The 52-year-old suffered serious head injuries during an argument with three cyclists in Portland Road, Hove.

Doctors fear the victim could be left permanently brain damaged after he received a single punch to the head.

It is believed the row began when the driver opened the door of his parked green Jaguar and struck one of the trio of cyclists shortly before midday yesterday.

The argument escalated and one of the three then punched the man in the head, knocking him to the ground.

As he lay unconscious the men fled on their bikes.

The victim, who is thought to live in Hove, was initially taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital but was later moved to the specialist brain injuries unit at Hurstwood Park in Haywards Heath.

The man who threw the punch is described as white, in his late 30s and between 5ft 10in and 6ft.

He was slim and scruffy with stubble.

One of the three was riding a fluorescent green bicycle.
