Two Sussex Police officers have been summonsed for speeding in their patrol cars.
PC David Muddle, based at East Brighton police station, and PC Robert Watts, based at Hove, were pulled over by an unmarked police motorcyclist on September 5.
They were in separate marked police cars at the time, driving on the A27 between the Devil’s Dyke and Falmer. Sussex Police said they were not responding to an emergency.
Both men have been summonsed to court accused of breaking the 70mph limit.
They are due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Sussex Police said neither officer has been suspended but both officers are facing internal disciplinary hearings as well as the court action.
They have been temporarily stripped of their licences to drive cars responding to emergencies and have been transferred to new departments until the outcome of the court case is known.
