Meet Charlie Dewdney, Sussex’s youngest Morris dancer.

The bell-bottomed baby, born on May 12 this year, is a key member of Horsham’s Broadwood Morris Men.

Charlie’s father Dan and grandfather John are both members of the group.

His father and mother Ruth, 31, made him an outfit including three-quarter length brown cord trousers, a green sash belt, white knee-length socks with bells, a white shirt and two red sashes.

The outfit’s pièce de résistance is a grey baby-sized top hat made of cardboard covered in felt.

Charlie loves to attend all the group’s events and is treated as any other member.

Dan, 27, of Burford Road, Horsham, said: “My dad is a Morris dancer and I am too.

“I started dancing and had an outfit made when I was about three or four but we decided to make Charlie one straight away.

“He loves coming along to events and is always the centre of attention. He steals the show.

“He moves about and kicks his legs and arms out.

“He can choose not to take up Morris dancing when he is older but I hope he will.

“At the moment he just loves the attention.”
