Santa Claus will have no trouble finding this festive house.

While some people across the county have declined to put up huge displays this year to try to save on electricity costs, this family’s eye-popping display is bigger and better than ever before.

Lynn and Michael Farnes, of Amberley Drive, Hove, are well known for their amazing lights.

The mastermind behind the lights and decorations is Iceland worker Mr Farnes, who is so intent on making it perfect before putting up the lights that he lays out a plan on his pool table.

Mrs Farnes, 46, said: “Michael started putting up the decorations in November.

“The family is so excited. You get people from all over coming and admiring the lights.

People knock on the door and say how good they look and how much they like them.”

The Farnes’s electricity bill for the lights usually runs to about an extra £150 for the winter.

But Mrs Farnes, who works nights at Sainsbury’s, said it was worth it.

She added: “It is great to see people’s faces.

“The children especially love it.

It makes them happy.

“We also raise money for the PDSA, the animal charity.

People drop money in and always say how fantastic the lights are.

“We get some people knocking on the door asking if Santa lives here.

“No one has ever complained but if they did we would tell them, ‘Tough’.”

Her daughter Carina, 18, a shop assistant at Wickes, said: “When I was younger I used to get embarrassed but I like the lights now.

“But Michael won’t let anyone touch them.

Before putting them up he draws a plan of where everything will go and has all the lights colour co-ordinated.”

Carina’s sisters Sabrina, 11, and Roni-Jo, two, also love the lights.
