Would it be a good idea to have a “workers’ bus fare” on the buses? Say, £1 return travel between 6am until 9am and then 4.30pm until 6.30pm, taking workers into the city and home after work.
This would take hundreds of cars off the road at peak times. Commuters would be silly not to use the buses at these prices. Workers in the city face an ever-increasing problem of getting in to work on time and finding a place to park. Of course some people will try to abuse this concession but with careful screening this could be overcome.
Public transport should be for the people. With hundreds of cars left at home, this would be a good way to reduce emissions and help the buses run on time.
