Schools in Sussex will receive an extra £8.8 million for teaching poorer pupils.
Each school in the county will be given an extra £430 by the Government for every pupil who is entitled to free school meals.
This includes all children whose parents have an income of less than £16,000.
The number of pupils eligible for this year is still being processed by councils, but officers have estimated amounts they expect to receive based on last year’s figures.
In Brighton and Hove the pupil premium is estimated to be around £2,047,230, based on the 4,761 children who were eligible in 2010.
East Sussex County Council said their pupil premium would be worth about £3.3 million and West Sussex County Council said based on current numbers the pupil premium would be worth about £3.5 million.
