The wife of a man found hanged at a mental health hospital said she thought staff had not taken her husband’s suicide threats seriously.

Oliver Minkley, 35, died on May 2 last year - less than two days after he was voluntarily admitted to Mill View Hospital in Hove.

His body was discovered in the toilets in a public area of the hospital more than nine hours after staff realised he was missing.

Yesterday an inquest into Mr Minkley’s death was opened in Hove.

Gabrielle Minkley, of The Drive, Hove, who was 12 weeks pregnant when her husband died, told the inquest: “We were there because Oliver was saying he wanted to kill himself but I didn’t really feel like that was taken seriously.

“He was never put on any kind of suicide watch. He was there to be safe. I wish I had kept him at home to keep him safe."

The inquest continues.
