Grandmother Vera Chick remembers Albion’s FA Cup run in 1983 like it was yesterday.

She used rosettes to decorate the bookmakers where she worked to give the shop a Seagulls theme.

Mrs Chick, 81, remembers winning money from her employers Ladbrokes on that memorable day when she had a dream that the game would end in a draw.

Her colleagues told her to put a bet after she told them about her dream and shortly after Gary Stevens last-gasp equaliser she and her colleagues were collecting their winnings at the Hollingdean Road store.

It was a special time and Mrs Chick hopes Albion can keep their run going as the team prepares to head to Stoke on Saturday.

She has even still got the rosettes.

Mrs Chick, from Coldean, said her two grandsons Sean Bland, 25, and Craig, 23, both from Angmering, near Worthing, are huge Albion fans and will be travelling to Stoke while she and her husband Gordon, 81, will be listening to the game on the radio.

She said: “It might be a bit too much to ask them to get to the final again but they are doing so well at the moment.”

Mrs Chick is just one of the many fans who have got in contact with The Argus to talk about their FA Cup memories in anticipation of the big games for Albion and Crawley this weekend.

If FA Cup fever is bringing back memories of Albion and Crawley in the cup runs of yesteryear for you, then we want to hear about it.
