This afternoon, Brighton and Hove City Council's cabinet will discuss its budget for the upcoming financial year.

The Tory-led council has been accused of attempting to "buy" the May election by promising a 1% cut in council tax and a 5% cut in resident parking permit charges.

More money for youth services and free swimming for under 11s are also included.

However, the budget also includes 250 job losses and £34million in cuts - with no indication of how the rest of its shortfall will be made up in the years following the election.

And it has come in for particular criticism for its decision to spend more than £1m removing cycle lanes in Grand Avenue and The Drive, Hove.
