Councillor Bill Randall’s idea to dump cars in Withdean, Patcham and Rottingdean, rather than in his own ward, is somewhat of a parochial response to what is very much a shared local problem (Letters, February 11).

The scheme in question, which involves towing parking offenders to the nearest free parking space, is under trial at present. If it is the case that any particular area is affected adversely then it is quite right that concerns are raised.

But the numbers of cars involved are tiny and it is not thought that the residents of any particular area will notice any difference whatsoever. This common sense approach, with a proper and fair trial, is certainly worth a shot given the nature of this shared local problem that we all must face.
