A driver was left shaken but unhurt after his car left the road and hit a tree.
Firefighters from Worthing were called to the northbound carriageway of the A24 at Findon, just north of North Farm, at about 5.30am today.
The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crew had originally received a report that the man was trapped in his vehicle but when they arrived at the scene he was out of the car.
A West Sussex fire service spokesman said: βHe was shaken but fine and didn't need hospital treatment. We made the road safe and left the matter in the hands of the police.β
