A woman forced to sleep in her car by her noisy neighbours is helping to set up a campaign fighting for the right to a quiet night.

Joy Panteli, of Bevendean Crescent, Brighton, suffered relentless disturbance from the five students who moved in nextdoor to her, until Jamie Keens, Alex Allen, Domenico Salzia, Tanya Jones, and Adam Tulley were fined at Brighton Magistrates Court.

Now Ms Panteli and other campaigners want to work together with the universities, landlords, MPs and councillors to prevent noise and antisocial behaviour from starting in the first place.

Grandmother Ms Panteli, who is in her 60s, said: "As soon as the court case appeared in The Argus, people were contacting me to talk about their noise problems.

"Some of the stories people have told me are terrible. It has to stop now. We will be lobbying for change so action is taken more quickly and steps are taken to stop them in the first place.

"I couldn't believe how many people are going through the same thing and how many people dread the annual September term starting because they never know what sort of students they are going to get next door."

The Brighton Peace group wants to hear from other people who have suffered from nuisance neighbours, landlords, students and anyone else wanting to get involved. Anyone interested in taking part should email brightonpeace@hotmail.co.uk.
