A young mother who survived a horror crash has praised medics, saying “I owe my life to the NHS”.

Adriana Cook, 30, was in hospital for 11 weeks after being dragged under the wheels of a car.

She suffered a shattered pelvis, split spleen, broken ribs and eye socket, burns and a punctured bladder.

Immediately after the crash she was in intensive care at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where she underwent emergency surgery.

But now, three months on, Adriana has returned to work at a chemist three days a week.

She has had three operations and skin taken from her cheek to repair burns to other parts of her body.

Adriana said: “I cannot have my face in the sun again. But that is just vanity. What matters is that I am alive.

“And it is the NHS I have to thank. You hear a lot of bad things about the health service but I cannot say a bad thing about them."

Adriana spoke to The Argus of her memories of the crash, which took place outside the Candy Box newsagents in Lexden Road, Seaford, in October.
