A conservation area protecting an historic village could be expanded.

Residents in Rottingdean are being asked for their views on plans to make changes to the protection zone, which was last updated in the early 1970s.

Brighton and Hove City Council wans to help preserve and enhance the area, which includes 54 listed buildings, for future generations.

Areas being looked at are gardens and allotments to the rear of properties on the Green adjoining Beacon Hill, Our Lady of Lourdes church, the playing field to the rear of The Rotyngs, Nevill Road and the area around Golden Square and West Street.

If approved in principle on Thursday residents will have six weeks to comment.

The Rottingdean Conservation Area character statement is available to view at City Direct council offices and at the town library.
