Japanese students have spoken of their terror as they watched events unfold in their home country.
The students, who are studying at universities, colleges and language schools across Sussex, told about the nervous wait they had to endure as they frantically tried to contact their families and friends following Friday's earthquake and tsunami.
Students at the University of Sussex have set up an emergency society to fundraise for the victims of the tragedy in Japan.
They will be collecting money at its Falmer campus every day this week.
A fundraising page has been set up on Facebook to collect money for the Japan emergency appeal.
