Two brawling males had to be separated after battling over a lover.
Firefighters were called in after the stags could not unlock their antlers.
A crew from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service went to Deaks Lane, Ansty, at about 4.35pm on Sunday.
A spokesman said they used small tools and poles as they worked for more than an hour to part the tangled beasts.
