A council is to force through the sale of homes that have lain unused for more than a decade.

Hastings Borough Council has served compulsory purchase orders on six properties in the town after warning homeowners to use or lose the properties.

The buildings include a Victorian family home in Manor Road, Hastings that has been empty for ten years and a family home in Abbey Drive, St Leonards that hasn’t been lived in for 17 years.

Councillor Trevor Webb, lead member for housing at Hastings Borough Council, said: "This sends a clear message to the owners of these properties and all owners of empty homes that the council will not tolerate long term empty homes being wasted in Hastings and St Leonards."
