What is the point of bus operator The Big Lemon? When it first started operating its stated aim was to encourage people out of their cars to help the environment. Why then does it only serve an area of the city that probably has one of the highest numbers of bus seats per hour in the area, causing only more unnecessary traffic?

This level of service has come about because, over the years, Brighton And Hove Bus And Coach Company has introduced innovative ideas. Their modern, user-friendly low-floor vehicles have dramatically increased ridership.

Should they be penalised for doing this by another operator who uses step-entrance vehicles that are unable to accommodate wheelchairs or buggies, and are difficult for the less mobile to use?

Some might say The Big Lemon is trying to cream off traffic generated by the long-standing provider, which in the long run is detrimental to all other bus passengers in the city.

As a keen observer of the bus industry and a frequent visitor to your fine city, I think readers may not realise how fortunate they are to have a good bus service provided by Brighton And Hove Bus Company.

If the Big Lemon is a shining example of community transport, why does it pack up for three months every summer? How are workers at the universities supposed to travel when all their buses go on holiday?

The fact is, Lemon has been creaming off Brighton And Hove’s bus route and has come unstuck now prices are the same. That’s competition Mr Druitt.
