A thirteen-storey tower could be the centrepiece of a multi-million pound redevelopment to replace the “ugliest” building in Sussex.
A team of architects and planning officials are drawing up plans to develop the Anston House site in Preston Road, Brighton, which has been derelict for 20 years.
The Argus understands that initial proposals include a tower of between eight and 13 storeys as a focal point to the gateway to the city.
This would house hundreds of homes, many of which would be classified as affordable, with shops and office space on the floors nearest the road level.
A further two towers and some four-bedroom town houses would also be built on the 1.5 acre plot above an underground car park.
The tallest buildings in the neighbouring area currently are about ten storeys high.
The proposals were unveiled to councillors and officers from Brighton and Hove City Council at a meeting.
