A selfless neighbour rescued a man from a kitchen fire in his flat.

A 66-year-old man had started cooking in his flat in Southover Street, Brighton at around 6.30pm last night but fell asleep after taking his medication.

When the neighbour in his 20s spotted smoke coming out of the opposite flat, he pulled the sleeping man by his arm out of the burning flat.

Both men were treated for smoke inhalation and the 66-year-old was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton as a precautionary measure.

The fire caused a significant amount of smoke damage to the flat.
