A retired judge’s singing prowess will be put on trial when he returns to the courtroom as part of a theatre troop.
Just a few years ago Judge Michael Kennedy QC – at one point Sussex’s highest-ranking civil judge – was dealing with cases on a daily basis.
Now he will be the one being judged – or at least his singing abilities will be.
As chairman of the New Sussex Opera, he has managed to secure a performance space at Lewes Crown Court.
Rather appropriately the group will stage Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial By Jury.
The New Sussex Opera are the envy of theatre groups everywhere who often want to perform the Gilbert and Sullivan classic in real working courtrooms but for security reasons are rarely allowed.
The show will be in Lewes Crown Court on April 9 at 7.30pm and April 10 at 3pm and 7pm.
Ticket prices vary between £5 and £15.
