Fire rips through Brighton seafront chip shop

Fire has ripped through a fish and chip shop.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at Beach Break Fish and Chip in the King’s Road Arches, Brighton at around 3.30pm this afternoon.

Eight fire engines have been called to the scene among fears that the fire could spread to neighbouring shops and because there are fears that there maybe people trapped inside.

The fire was put out around two hours later and three people were led to safety from the blaze.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area between the Aquarium roundabout and the Grand Hotel where the A259 is temporarily closed.

Umi hotel on the Kings Road has been evacuated because of the smoke and residents have been directed to the Brighton Centre.

Was only thinking about the danger of a fire in these premises under Kings Road the day, after the fire under the M1. I hope the government review into businesses under motorways and railways covers other roads, too.

Always envious of motorcyclists in this situation, although always wince when cars start doing U-turns in traffic jams into the path of motorcycles passing on the right-hand side (as they're entitled to do).

I do. Anything that incinveniences selfish taxi drivers gets my vote.
On the plus side, glad nobody was injured it must have been quite busy down there.

I have just watched a number of videos on Youtube and am absolutely horrified. I cannot believe just how many STUPID STUPID PEOPLE actually stood so close to this fire just so they could see someone's livelihood go up in flames. This was a fire in a chip shop where the main ingredient is COOKING OIL !!! Who in their right mind would stand right in front of it. What did they think the outcome could be ?! People actually RAN TOWARDS this fire just to have a look !! There were even IDIOTS standing on top of the the burning building actually in the smoke !! Why on earth did it need the fire brigade to tell these stupid stupid people to move back ??!! Would all of those young people have been so keen to stand and cheer if they had been, god forbid, trapped in a burning nightclub? Unbelievable. Incredibly relieved that no one was hurt, trapped or killed.
