A 14-year-old pedestrian suffered serious head injuries after being struck by a car.
The collision took place at about 3.40pm yesterday on Seaside in Eastbourne at the junction with Southbourne Road.
Police said the crash involved a yellow Peugeot 107 driven by a 56-year-old woman and a black Mercedes driven by an 18-year-old local man.
The teenager was taken by ambulance to the Eastbourne District General Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the Mercedes car was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit are investigating the collision and are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Explore.
