Councillors have approved £6 million proposals for the 45-metre high ride known as the Brighton Wheel heralding it an “economic boost” to the city.
Developer Paramount Attractions now expects to set up the attraction in Madeira Drive, Brighton in the coming weeks in time for the summer trade.
The decision was taken after an hour-long discussion at a Brighton and Hove City Council meeting today.
Councillors, conservationists and neighbours were divided as to whether the plans should go-ahead.
But at vote time, seven members of the planning committee voted for with five abstaining.
