A police officer knew he would not see his daughter turn two.

So his family organised a pretend birthday for her.

Just three days before he died – and on his own birthday – PC Kevin Ogle and Kaitlin blew out the candles on a cake.

But the day was tinged with sadness because shortly afterwards PC Ogle slipped into unconsciousness and died, just three days after turning 35 and a few months after marrying his sweetheart.

PC Ogle and Lindsay tied the knot on New Year’s Day shortly after he received the news his bone cancer had spread to his lungs and was terminal.

Before he died he achieved one of his major goals – setting up a charity in his own memory.

The Kevin Ogle Sarcoma Cancer Fund is based in Brighton and held its first event a few weeks ago.

The event, at the dog track in Hove, raised more than £7,000 and PC Ogle was there for the occasion. Money raised will go towards research and helping others with sarcoma.

Families of victims will be treated to days out and trips. Before he died PC Ogle visited Paris with his family.

His mother Sue, 56, of Moyne Close, Hove, paid tribute to her son.

She said: “He was a smiler. He was always smiling, always happy. He always wanted to pet people and make them happy.”

PC Ogle died on April 26. He leaves his wife Lindsay, brother Steve, 33, sister Stacey, 31, mother Sue, father Dave and daughter Kaitlin.

If you would like to donate in PC Ogle’s memory send it to either the Kevin Ogle Sarcoma Cancer Fund or St Barnabas House Hospice in Worthing.

Send them to the Caring Lady Funeral Director, 38 Blatchington Road, Hove, BN3 3YH.
