Vintage fairs can offer gorgeous designer pieces at great prices as shown by the latest ‘Frock Me!’ fair held in Brighton’s Corn Exchange last Sunday.

As well as being kind to the pocket, vintage can also appeal to the conscience. Elaine Baker’s stall at the well attended Corn Exchange featured recycled, vintage jewellery with all the proceeds going to patient care at St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley.

Elaine said: “The materials were not only recycled and therefore great for the environment but designed for a fantastic cause."

The fair offered the opportunity to snap up sought after pieces – from a Mulberry bag for £95 to everyday floral dresses and quirky 1950s seamed stockings.

One stall owner, Sharon Booth, sold vintage Dior jewellery to Manolo Blahnik shoes and an outrageous John Galliano coat.

Her collection was a reminder that vintage finds are now all the rage. Sharon said her collection epitomised nostalgic chic, appealing because each piece had an untold history.

"If only vintage dresses could talk, then we could hear the most extraordinary stories," said Sharon.

‘Frock Me!’ not only featured clothing and accessories but evocative photographs from the past.

‘Vintage Lush’ offered framed images of everything from Vogue magazine covers and calendar pin-up girls to fashionable adverts and art deco.

The next ‘Frock Me!’ vintage fair at Brighton’s Corn Exchange will be on the 5th June, from 11am-5pm.
