More than £29,000 was raised for two charities.

The Strictly Spring Ball 2011, held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole on Saturday evening, raised thousands of pounds for good causes.

Funds will be split between The Argus Appeal, the newspaper’s own charity which donates to worthy causes across Sussex, and the Hilton in the Community charity.

This is the hotel chain’s own charity which specifically benefits young people.

About 250 people attended the event.

There was also an auction and a sports auction which proved enormously popular. People were able to bid for genuine football memorabilia.

A spokeswoman for the event said: “It is an annual event although this is the first time it has taken place in the spring.

“It was based on Strictly Come Dancing and a lot of local movers and shakers attended.

“Everyone there had a real passion for the charities and the hotel showed great hospitality.

“There was great dancing and great bands.

“We are really delighted and pleased so much money was raised and just want to thank everyone involved – everyone was terrific.”
