Armed police were called after a gun was fired.

The incident took place in Rusper, near Horsham, yesterday with one of the village’s main streets being cordoned off for about four hours.

Police said they are still investigating exactly what happened but confirmed a firearm had been discharged, although no one suffered any injuries.

Last night a 29-year-old man from Horsham and a 24-year-old man from Sandhurst in Berkshire were being questioned by officers.

Both were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

The drama started shortly before noon in Capel Road.

A Sussex Police statement said: “Police attended following a report of a disturbance which included a suspected firearm being discharged.

“No one was injured during the incident and the suspected firearm was not shot at anyone.”

A man living in Capel Road said: “The helicopter was looking above the woods for something. The helicopter has been flying above us all day.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call 0845 6070999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
