Tens of thousands of TV viewers in Sussex risk having their service cut off when the nation switches to Digital next year.

Across the county more than 153,000 thousand analogue televisions, including 17,000 in Brighton and Hove, are still being used as the switchover deadline looms.

Digital UK, the body leading the switchover, warned that the analogue sets must be converted before the biggest change in broadcasting for a generation takes place next year.

The notice came as Digital UK announced that analogue transmitters in East Sussex will be switched off in two stages.

The Heathfield and Hastings transmitters, and their relays, will have their BBC2 analogue service turned off on May 30 next year. The other analogue channels will be turned off on June 13.

Viewers in Brighton have already been told that their service will switch to digital in March, with the first channels being turned off on March 7 and the rest on March 21.
