The Argus: fringe_2011_logo_red_thumb A dark comedy penned by New York playwright Jacquelyn Reingold, performed by Lyndsey Bishop and Leanne Cruise of amateur theatre company BC Productions, this was outstanding theatre from start to finish.

Freeze Tag is about the unlikely meeting of two New Yorkers from opposite ends of the East Village.

Andrea stopped to buy a newspaper, only to discover old school pal Aldrich as the vendor.

While Aldrich remembered with eerie detail all the memories of their school days, Andrea’s life was very different as an adult and she was at first reluctant to reminisce.

But their innocent chat soon revealed that Aldrich knew intimate secrets of Andrea’s life. What started as funny turned frightening, then very sad in the blink of an eye.

Both Lyndsey and Leanne performed with incredible energy and emotional maturity. They were, of course, helped by the well-crafted and riveting story, and by superb direction.

Both actresses gave stand-out performances. Leanne was wonderfully repressed and introverted; Lyndsey truly amazing as the borderline psychotic stalker friend.

It’s the balance that Lyndsey struck between scary and sympathetic that made this stand out as a fantastic show. These two young women are definitely names to watch for the future.
