Councillors who have been in the job for just a week are among those forming Brighton and Hove City Council’s new cabinet.
Four out of ten members of the new Green cabinet are new councillors with the other posts going to seasoned members of the party.
The Green’s minority administration can only take control of the council after next Thursday’s full council meeting when a new mayor will ratify the system.
But yesterday much-anticipated details of who will take responsibility for the various portfolios were released.
Unsurprisingly the party’s convener, Bill Randall, will take the role of council leader. However he is relinquishing his role as his party’s spokesman for housing to his newly elected Hanover and Elm Grove ward mate, Liz Wakefield.
Amy Kennedy will be the second most powerful Green councillor, taking the role of deputy leader and cabinet member for planning, economic development and regeneration.
Ian Davey shares the role of deputy leader and takes responsibility for transport and public realm. Other familiar faces in the new cabinet include Jason Kitcat for finance and central services, Ben Duncan for communities and community safety and Pete West for environment and sustainability.
The other new councillors on the list include teachers Sue Shanks, who will be cabinet member for children and young people and Rob Jarrett who takes responsibility for adult social care and health. Former Pride trustee Geoffrey Bowden has been given the culture, recreation and tourism portfolio ahead of library campaigner Christopher Hawtree.
