A man has died after being electrocuted at his Uckfield home.

The man collapsed at his end-of-terrace home on Monday afternoon.

Neighbours said the property was undergoing renovation and it is thought the man may have been carrying out work on his house when he died.

An air ambulance was called and medics battled for 45 minutes to save him but he died at the scene.

One witness said: “There were two fire engines, an ambulance, two ambulance cars, police and electricity company cars in Hopfield Gardens.

“A helicopter landed on a nearby field and I saw the crew making their way to the house.”

Another resident said: “There were a lot of sirens. We saw an air ambulance and I guessed it was fatal.

“There were people from the electricity board there in fluorescent jackets.”

A neighbour said: “It is very tragic.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A 61-year old man has died after being involved in an accident at an address in Uckfield, just after 12.30pm on Monday.

“Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the private address after the man collapsed whilst working within the property. He was given immediate medical treatment but tragically died at the scene.”

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
