I HAD to write to put over my point of view on the appalling, litter-strewn streets of Hanover.

As we have just had an election with the majority of window stickers displaying “Vote Green”, I was under the impression this meant a clean environment.

But not in the Hanover area of Brighton I’m afraid.

On walking to work every morning, I vary my route and try a different one each day and, having walked through the streets, cannot believe the amount of rubbish.

Recycle bins, dustbins and bicycles chained to lamp posts clutter the pavement, forcing me to walk in the road.

Why do people put all their rubbish out in the street?

I was brought up in Brighton. We kept our bins out in the back of the house and they were brought out weekly ready for collection.

Now, people put their rubbish outside in black bags for seagulls to peck at and open up, allowing all of their rubbish to be displayed for everyone to see.

I had to laugh when I saw one dustbin where flowers were planted in it and black bags were placed beside it.

One has to walk along the pavements dodging black bags, rubbish and recycle bins full to the brim with cans and bottles.

I thought the point of voting Green was for clean air and a cleaner environment.

But no; live in Hanover where it will soon be infested with rats and vermin from all the rubbish.

Like in the old days, it could be a case of “mind your head” as people throw their waste out of a window.

Property is sought after in this area apparently, but why?

The residents here appear to have no pride in their homes, the environment or even themselves.
