Kemp Town Glee Club has gone from strength to strength since their start in August last year. Their popularity is not just based on the enthusiasm for an American teen drama, but on a genuine love of performing and reaching out to their community.

The group founder, Catrin Rees-O'Neill, is eager to point out that there are no auditions and it is "a fun community thing, no pressure, its just fun and lively."

The Crypt of St George's church they practise in is small for a group of 20 members. But the last few Mondays it has only had to deal with the nine or so performers who have volunteered their time for the Brighton Fringe Festival.

The small, but infinitely passionate, group of people are a mix of ages, backgrounds and professions. Together they performed Stand By Me as an Acapella group at the Mayors Variety Show in February.

On the 28th of May they will perform The Time Warp and Cee Lo Green at the Crowdshare event. Their moves are simple enough for people to join in and their voices are skilled enough to enjoy from the sidelines.

Sophie Smith, 31, says that they share the solos, it's very unsnobby and you don’t have to be the best singer.

There is a waiting list to join the club, but they are currently looking for new members and there is the chance to perform in the Kemp Town Carnival and possibly even Brighton Pride.

The lucky people performing in two weeks time are Martin Owen, 26, Mariana Moyano, 29, Tara Chang, 29, Chloe Molyneux, 19, Emma Smith, 23, Lucy Hunter, 20, Sophie Smith, 32, Chiara Fulgoni, 18, Kathryn Marriot, 31, and Alexis Besson,27.
