A 30-year-old man has died following a horror crash that left seven people in hospital.

John Boeijink of Okehampton, Devon, died from injuries sustained in a collision in Old Broyle Road, Chichester on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was driving a black Subaru car in Old Broyle Road at around 10.15pm on Sunday when it collided with a blue Audi A3 and burst into flames.

He died on Tuesday evening at Southampton General Hospital.

Seven people were taken to hospital that night with four suffering from serious injuries and a 20-year-old Hampshire man remains in a critical condition in hospital suffering from life-threatening head injuries.

A 27-year-old man from Chichester who was a passenger in the Subaru received a broken leg while the 34-year-old Chichester man who drove the Audi suffered a broken ankle.

Doctors who attended the accident described the accident as one of the worst they had seen in some time.
