I CONCUR with nearly every word written by June Szypulski concerning litter and mess (Letters, May 21).

I use the word “nearly” because, thankfully, there is still a percentage of people, albeit rapidly diminishing, who do have some pride and self-respect.

And Trevor Alford failing to get re-elected at the recent local elections is proof that an apparent majority at the moment – at least in North Portslade anyway – do not care about the environment.

During his four years’ reign as a councillor in North Portslade Trevor, unlike any other councillor I have known in the 50-odd years I have lived here, regularly mustered the “do cares” and, unstintingly, worked tirelessly alongside them clearing up the mess left behind by the “don't cares”.

I trust the current brace of incumbents in North Portslade will be seen out and about with their sleeves rolled up, carrying on with the good work of Mr Alford.
