Bus passengers were forced to take an early stop after a fire broke out.
Firefighters from Hove were called to a Brighton and Hove double decker bus on fire in Dyke Road close to the junction with Tongdean Road at around 11.30pm last night.
The three passengers and the driver of the bus were able to escape without injury.
Firefighters said they believed the fire was caused by a fault in the engine.
Roger French, managing director of Brighton and Hove Bus Company, praised the quick actions of fire crews to restrict the fire to the rear of the bus.
He said the bus would now be examined but he did not believe it would be off the road for very long.
