FURTHER to Nigel Davis’s letter about 0845 phone numbers (The Argus, June 18) and a response (Letters, June 28), I feel the following needs to be pointed out: • Calling a number costs 2p a minute daytime, and 0.5p a minute at all other times when called from a BT landline. Other networks, including calls from mobiles, may vary.
• The owner of the 0845 number makes no profit from calls made to it.
• The point of an 0845 number is it costs the same to phone it, no matter where in the UK the caller is.
The 0870 numbers are the ones to be aware of – these numbers are “for profit”
and cost considerably more.
I have used an 0845 number for my business for many years, with not a single complaint.
