A section of one of Sussex’s busiest highways was shut after a cyclist collapsed at the side of the road.
Queues of more than three miles were reported after the incident on the westbound carriageway of the A27 in Lancing.
Police confirmed the incident, which is believed to have happened about 7am today, was caused by a cyclist.
The male rider dismounted and then collapsed at the side of the road suffering head injuries.
Police shut the road between the Lancing Manor leisure centre roundabout and Grand Avenue, Lancing, for 45 minutes while paramedics attended.
The cyclist was taken to hospital.
A spokeswoman for the police confirmed at 8.45am that the road was reopened and traffic flow returning to normal.
