A colourful carnival cavalcade confirmed Worthing as one of Britain's top seaside resorts.

Thousands of people lined the seafront as the town's Rotary clubs weekend came to a spectacular end today.

More than 20 floats representing community groups and organisations in the town took part.

Ruby Souter and Rhyce Goodwin, both eight, the newly crowned carnival princess and prince, led the parade in an open top car.

They were followed by Worthing mayor Ann Barlow on an open top bus as the parade wound its way from Grand Avenue to Steyne Gardens.

Crowds cheered as a glittering array of dancers in sparkling costumes went through their routines along the route.

The event was organised by Worthing's three Rotary clubs which joined forces to stage the carnival over three days for the first time this year.
