Strong winds are set to buffet the Sussex coast today.

Weather forecasters are predicting that winds as strong as 60mph will batter the coast over the next couple of days.

Strong winds will put tall structures such as construction cranes and amusement park rides out of action and residents have been urged to take caution and ensure that nothing is likely to blow off their roofs.

High winds of almost 50mph with heavy downpours of rain have already been felt across Sussex yesterday and on Sunday evening.

Winds of around 60mph measure 10 on the Beaufort Scale with 12 for a hurricane as the highest on the scale.
