McDonald's new vegetarian meal row

A SECOND woman has described her horror at biting into a vegetarian meal in McDonald’s and discovering she was eating chicken.

Teacher Emma Goldsmith, 32, from Eastbourne, ordered a vegetarian meal at the town’s branch in Lottbridge Drove on September 24 but was given a chicken meal in a vegetarian wrapper.

She contacted The Argus after reading Karan Franklin, from Patcham, Brighton, had a similar experience in McDonald’s at Brighton Marina.

Ms Goldsmith said she was sick twice after biting into the burger and staff apologised.

She wrote an email of complaint and was sent a letter of apology and a £20 voucher, but has said she will not use it as she does not want to eat McDonald’s ever again.

She said: “I thought it was Quorn at first. I pulled it apart and realised it was chicken. The manager did not know what to do.

“It took head office nearly two weeks to respond to me. I rang them and then had to email them. I have got no intention of dining with them ever again.”

A McDonald’s spokeswoman said: “We are very sorry a customer at one of our restaurants in Eastbourne experienced less than our usual rigorous standards of food quality and service."

The company added it has retrained the restaurant team to make sure it does not happen again.

"Ms Goldsmith said she was sick twice after biting into the burger"

I agree get a grip love, you must have known when you chewed it so why swallow, got yourself to blame for being sick and if you don't want the voucher I'm sure someone else would!

"The company added it has retained the restaurant team to make sure it does not happen again."

On the basis that they'll make sure they never make the same again.

One wonders if perhaps some "retraining" for the Argus subs might be in order.

I hope when i buy a Chicken burger i don't get some rubbish replacement vegetarian stuff. Mcdonalds is a burger fast food joint not the place for rabbits.

Why on earth would anyone want to eat in MacDonalds anyways?! It's a bit like going for a holiday in a nudist camp and complaining there were naked people everywhere.

A simple slip up by the n0bs who work behind the Counters, it does not justify news coverage.

Eating McDonalds always makes me throw up and I put meat in my mouth on a regular basis

No vegetarian should be eating in McDonalds. I would rather starve than eat their muck.

So, to get this right! Vegetarian eats in a restaurant famous for it's beef and chicken burgers and orders a vegetarian meal. Whilst surrounded by people chomping away at meat, gets disgusted at being given a wrong order which contains meat. Describes her experience as HORROR to The Argus?

Moral of the story - always check what you are putting in your mouth.

I once asked, (stupidly, I admit) in Macdonalds what their vegetatrian options were...I was offered chicken.

Many uneducated people think that chicken can be eaten by vegetarians.
Some really thick people think that vegetarians eat rabbit food.
Absolute morons think that vegetarians shouldn't be bothered if they get a mouthful of dead animal now and again.
A bit of human meat wouldn't do the carnivores any harm, but I bet they'd be up in arms if they found a toe in their Maccy D's.

It's against my religious practices to eat animal flesh. When I order vege, I expect vege. If this happened to me I would not hesitate to sue due to discrimination against my religion, which IS a violation of MY CIVIL RIGHTS!

It's against my religion to eat meat so if McDonalds or any restaurant did that to me I would be filing a lawsuit for violation of my civil rights due to religious discrimination. If I ordered something without meat, that's what I expect. It's against the law to discriminate against a religion in America.

You're wrong there, sorry. A person working in McDonalds wouldn't know your religion, so you could hardly claim they discrimintaed against your religion if they didn't even know what it was in the first place. accidents and mistakes happen. It won't kill you. May upset you, but not kill you. And i speak as a vegetarian. Any self respecting vegetarian wouldn't go there in the first place so i would have no sympathy for you. What is your religion by the way? The only vegetarian one that springs to mind is Sihkism.

HAHAHA my mum is a Hindu Brahman and she doesn't eat meat but even she says this is a complete over reaction and she also points out that religions that have restrictions on eating meat only brought those in because way back when people died from eating bad/rotten/diseased meat and this is why it was "indoctrinated" into religion - to "save" people's lives.

It's completely outdated - eating meat is a lifestyle choice these days, not a religious choice.

Many of my Brahman relatives eat meat these days and guess what - they aren't going to go to hell lol

"Get a grip, it's only meat"
It might be "only meat" to you, but it's the scorched, dismembered flesh of a murdered cadaver to some.
One man's meat is another man's poison, isn't it?
If that had been me, I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from vomiting. My revulsion towards meat borders on the pathological. I really could develop a phobia of meat if I wasn't so determined not to.
But that's beside the point - these people ordered a veggie meal - you must understand the genuine distress caused by them being served meat.
Several places I have been to have labelled prawn crackers & oyster sauce "vegetarian" when they clearly aren't! If it has to die before you can eat it, it isn't vegetarian. And all those out there who say "I'm vegetarian" & then eat fish are *not* vegetarians. They are "Pisco-vegetarian", because they are taking the ****.

Serial killing cannibals who have even sold human meat as pork (and nobody could tell the difference) think the same thing: "It's only meat". Human meat, pig meat, chicken meat, cow meat--meat is meat. That's probably why it's against my religion to eat animal products.

I'd eat human meat if there was nothing else to eat and I was hungry.
