I BEG to differ with Mr Gillman’s view on how politics works (Letters, October 17).

Greens believe in involving residents in the big choices that face our city.

Politicians alone cannot possibly have all the answers or be aware of all the issues – there needs to be public involvement between elections. Or does Mr Gillman never contact his councillors, MP or MEPs between elections but hopes they somehow know of his every concern?

This year is the start of a Green-led journey to making Brighton and Hove City Council’s budget process as inclusive and open as possible.

We hope to build on this year’s work in the next year, and so on.

This year’s budget consultation was approved by a cross-party working group, and the results of the consultation will be available to inform the deliberations of all parties.

It will be all councillors who set the budget on February.

Please do help inform the debate by visiting www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/ budget.

Finally, Mr Gillman is incorrect in his assertions about the Green Party’s electoral platform.

We were, and remain, very clear – our manifesto remains online if he wishes to check.

We will “resist, to the greatest extent possible, the service cuts and privatisation imposed” on us by central Government. That’s a direct quote from our election manifesto, and we stand by that.
