A man who climbed on to an electricity substation is fighting for his life after receiving serious burns.
Police were called to Spring Gardens, Brighton, at 4.20am today over concerns for the man's welfare.
While they were at the scene the man received an electric shock. He has been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with life-threatening injuries.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene and North Road was temporarily cordoned off to allow access for emergency services and for the safety of the public. The road was reopened at about 7.20am.
The area around the substation is still cordoned off.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) had been notified as a matter of standard procedure. The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed.
